Merry Christmas all - has anyone ever come across email spamming whereby the sender has managed to get hold of a display name known to you? Someone I know has received spam that was sent with the display name "Martin Lewis" and "Jacques Hinckley". These are both display names known to her, as she subscribes to legitimate mailing lists from both, but of course in both cases it was phishing that had actually been sent from a Yahoo mail account.
The "Martin Lewis" one would be understandable, since he is pretty well known - www.moneysavingexpert.com. By "Jacques Hinckley" wouldn't be known to anyone that lives outside of Hinckley in the Midlands (UK) really, so there would be no point in sending out speculative email in this name!
I've never come across this specifically before - I've checked the PC she uses for malware and it's clean, but as far as I'm concerned this is the only way this could have happened? I guess it could have been picked up from any PC she had signed into her Gmail account on.
