How important is redundant power supplies in core switches / single switch enviroments?
I have a customer that has a dell switch that keeps causing network outages and I have confirmed it is the switch. Also it is at capacity and the customer wants to add quite a few ap's.
They need a 48 port switch and want something good like cisco or HP but everthing I see with PS redundancy is well over their 2k budget.
Is the redundancy really needed? Just wanted some opinions on who uses switch ps redundancy and who does not.
All the customers servers have redundant PS units and if the switch goes then nothing works as it is the only switch. I can buy 1 switch to put in and a spare to keep in house for half the cost of a switch with dual PS. But then you have the downtime to swap it over which requires me to drive out and do it.
