Just before Labor Day, I felt something really odd with my old Headset, a Microsoft folding unit that went behind my head. It was rattling with every. Single. Bass. Thump. It was super annoying so I decided to get a new one, a Plantronics one based on my previous (years) of history with the company and I was hoping to be at their facility soon to try them on. Unfortunately, the class had to be canceled, but I figured I'd use the tried and true retail trick: buy it and return it if you don't like it.

My local Best Buy, which was having a labor day sale, didn't have the unit and I wound up buying a Logitech unit that seemed almost identical. It was OK, and it worked for about 3-4 hours. The first night I used it, it was super comfortable (about 2 hours of use). Purchased on Friday, I was set for a whole weekend of gaming in Eve, ready to hear the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in ... well, vacuum. It was not to be.

By the time Sunday night had rolled around, the small ear cups had begun to hurt a great deal, and I couldn't wear the unit for more than 30 minutes without needing a rest break. The sale was still going on and I ordered the 780 from the BB web site (only $65). Before they had arrived, I had already returned the hateful, uncomfortable, and heavy Logitech headset.

My Plantronics 780 arrived the next day, 2 days ahead of my expectation. I plugged it in (my first USB headset) and followthe manual to install. Once the software was done, I loaded my usual test, some music. The Dolby on this is amazing. I can feel the bass. When I loaded Teamspeak, it was flawless, and my corpmates reported less noise; my 2950, the nas, 5524 switch and my Eaton 5px are all 6 feet away. It's now months later and I'm still loving how comfortable this unit is, and how easy it is for all my voip and music.

I hope it never breaks!
