Hi all,
Our mail server running server 2008 r2 with Exchange 2010 is starting get lame, the raid is about to fail and it cant cope with only 4GB RAM. Yesterday we got a new Dell power Edge R320 to replace it. I was wondering what is the best way to do the migration The current server is the only exchange server in our org, so all roles are installed on it and it is also our VPN server.
For the new server I thought to put Server 2012 as the OS with the drive configured in one big raid 10 array. Then to install exchange 2010 and update to latest SP (SP2 right?), I can get exchange 2013 but I don't see that there really is a need for that yet.
So here are my questions.
1. Can I just to a mail box migration of all the boxes (in 3 DBs) from the current server to the new one in one DB?
2. Do I need to upgrade the current exchange to sp2 first before migrating?
3. Once the mail boxes are moved over do I just switch off the old box and change the IP for the new to be the same as the old one?
Sorry for the noob questions, I inherited the exchange server and have never had to do a migration before.
Maybe there is a step by setp how some place of exchange 2010 to 2010 migration.
Thanks
