Not receiving alert for an automatic service that was stopped

About 1-2 weeks ago, we added an alert to notify by email if an automatic service was stopped. So far, we have not received any emails, which is good.... However, today we found out that the SQL reporting services was not started on a server. We discovered this when a 2am report failed to run. So, at 10am or so, I started that service. We never received an alert that it was stopped, and it's an automatic service.

Not sure when it stopped as I couldn't find anything in the event viewer that shows that. There were some I/O errors at 12am. Maybe that affected it? I believe our daily network scan occurs at 10pm.

Just wondering if there are certain service stats that can't be viewed by SW. When I look at that server device in Spiceworks and look at the list of Applications and Services, SQL reporting services isn't even listed. SQL Server and the Agent are... Does SW only do alerts on things it sees and can identify? Does it only look for stopped services in a network scan vs a health check that happens many times a day...?

If it's not going to really check the stats of "Any Service" and get notified for stopped, automatic ones, are there alternatives we can use to really do such a thing?

Also, since we have never received an alert for something like this since we enabled it a week ago, I don't even know if that particular alert is even working.

We are using SW version 6.1.01100. We do plan on upgrading to the newest within a week or so.

Thank you for any input.
