Hi All,
I been testing backup and restore of virtual machines on Hyper V on Windows Server 2012. I've successfully backed up, deleted, and restored a basic Windows XP virtual machine. It booted up with no problems. I then tried to do the same thing with another virtual machine running Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005. The VM backed up successfully but when I attempted a restore it failed immediately.
My question is how would you guys use the Unitrends appliance to backup and restore virtual machines running SQL? I thought VSS would let me take a image level backup of the machine but I guess there is more to it.
Do have to treat database type virtual servers (SQL, Exchange, etc) as physical boxes and install the agent on the guest OS, and do bare metal, and database backup jobs? I was really hoping to take a full snap of the VM and then a complete restore.
Thanks in advance.
