We are about to upgrade the file servers for our two offices (one is a 15 user office, the other is a 40 user office) and I want to virtualize the file servers with server2012 and hyper-V.The servers will be HP DL380G7s.
We are a CAD shop with AutoCAD/REVIT engineering drawings.
(We do ArcServe backup nightly. For a "poor man's" local-DR I currently use PEERSYNC to mirror the project files in the bigger office. I run a Robocopy/mirror 2 times a day in the smaller office).
(I did have to use the mirror once and it was fairly easy to redirect the users to the mirror while I fixed the original server).
I am wondering about using the new Hyper-V "replica" feature as a poor man's mirroring-DR...
I would probably use 3 VHDs for each file server...1=OS,1=DATA,1=Pagefile...
Has anyone has tried to do this with a file server with CAD files? We have about 550gb of project files in the small office and 750gb in the bigger office.
The setup would be 2 hyper-V servers with DAS (RAID10) and enough diskspace on each for the other's VMs if neccessary...
Any comments?
