Backing up DFSR with Veeam

I currently use an in-client backup solution that's coming up for renewal and have been looking at other options. MS then out out this little article (which totally got my attention as I was about to virtualise my DFSR hub!):

Which implies you should ONLY use a client side backup if you're using DFSR. How does VEEAM manage this?
