Cannot Map Local Drives.

Hi Everyone,

I have a newly imaged PC that is replacing an older PC as it is faster.
For the record, the older PC was working fine.
Both run WinXP

The PC is hooked up on a remote site with 4 other computers and a local file server (no AD)
The PC's are hooked up to our main domain network (server 2003) over individual VPN connections which are activated at logon.

The issue is that I cannot get this PC to Map Network Drives to the local file server at the site.
I can Map to our main drives over VPN however.

The file server and the older PCs used to be part of a different domain network which we inherited and have since set up onto our own network. All of which are working fine except for this new PC.

*Could this be some kind of security certificate or setting that the server is asking for which this new PC just doesn't have?

I can ping the file server and even remote into it just fine using the same logon credentials but it always rejects the username and/or password at the login process when trying to Map or even connect via \\fileserver\share.

When attempting to Map the drive I get 4 diget error message which I forgot but I will write it down next time I am at the site.

I have tried removing from the domain, checking for local administrative permissions and they are all the same as the other working machines.

I have made sure no firewalls or AV are blocking the connection and have googled and played around with this for 2 solid half days of frustration...

I have noticed when pinging the file server that sometimes it gives the local IP of 192.168.x.x however occasionally it will give the VPN range and will not get a reply.
I can see no pattern as to why this happens. It even persists after turning the VPN off.

Being pressed for time I have probably forgotten to note some critical information so please hit me up for specific details!

I will also update with more information and details after I have been on-site again.

Regards,
Jono.
