Please excuse the wall of text, but I need a bit of feedback on this one:
Recently i took over as Network/systems admin from an external company. Only to find something out of horror movies, namely, the servers were not updated in quite a while, furthermore, to supplement the need for more machines, they literally added all kind of desktop pcs with dedicated roles.
The problem i'm facing is fairly simple:
The standalone pcs now support alot of roles such as: productive ERP, expense management erp system, a sql server, vpn server and a couple of terminal servers and they are a nightmare to manage since they have desktop components with no redundancy.
I want to virtualize all of this, but my servers are old and budgeting for a new server is out of the question ... simply put, i have to manage with what i got.
As it stands right now, I have 3 Fujitsu primergy servers:
-TX300 (xeon e5205, 8 GB ddr2 ECC, 6x 15k SAS, NO RAID! - DC, FS, PRT SV)
-RX300 (xeon 5130, 4 GB ddr2 ECC, 3x 10k SAS, NO RAID! - Empty)
-TX100 (pentium D 930, 2 GB ddr2 ECC, 2x desktop SATA seagates! NO RAID! - DC2, FS2)
I managed to relieve the RX300 of all that it had to do and now i plan to install the standalone pc roles onto it.
My big question: Will it be able to handle 2 low usage ERP systems and a SQL server?
We have roughly 60 onsite users with 30 remote ones, the ERP systems are used by 10-20 users and the fileserver does not work all that hard.
