OK, I've gotten pretty far in my first real server build. Specs first:
ASUS TS100-E7/PI4
Main Drive - Seagate 500GB - nonRAID
Storage base: 3x 2TB WD Black in RAID5 with no virtual drives. Set up via the Intel utility, so I believe it is a Hardware type setup
Backup - Daily run SyncBack with staggered folders (2hrs apart) to a separate simple RAID0 backup box with 2x 2TB WD Green. Policy set to run backup BEFORE swapping a drive if RAID5 sees a failure.
Purpose: File server for an office of around 20-25 individuals (some part timers/low-use positions in there). Email backups are present on the server, but only backups. Email is managed with GMail's 25GB boxes for redundancy.
I'm pretty happy with the hardware and recovery workflow options and it's much, much better than the current setup which is JBOD with 4 very scary hard drives (1x500gb, 2x40gb, 1x 120gb) with broken, non-functioning backup box.
But I have not yet found any options for monitoring and notification for the RAID5.
I read that there was some software related to SpiceWorks that could handle this, but I wasn't able to find anything specific.
Suggestions?
Thanks
