Virtual Desktops, Terminal Services and the like.

Over the weekend I will be installing a
Acer AT310 F2 server with 4x1tb disks in Raid10 (or 0+1/1+0 however you wanna look at it)

Currently running Windows Server2008-R2 with 16gb of ram

The server is Hosting the Active Directory in a single new forest, with file and folder redirection, DHCP and DNS services, you know - standard stuff for a single server domain.

Where it gets tricky is that I have an Automotive software package called SAM (http://www.sam.co.nz/ourproducts/overviewsam) to host on Virtualized desktops for a reason that is unknown to me at this point.

What I need to know is:
*Configuring the software to run inside a VM and reference an external database, can I setup one image and deploy it to the 7 users that are to have access to the software?
*What Guest OS should I use? I was thinking of just using something lightweight like Windows XP, but that means the virtual desktops will be E.O.L April next year and will receive no further updates.
*Will I be able to circumvent Individual OS licencing? or will I need to arrange purchase of 7 to 10 OS licences?
I have more questions that I'll no doubt think of instead of sleeping tonight. I know I seem a bit disorganized, but it's early days in the planning and it goes live in approx a weeks time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
