We have a Windows 8 Home Premium x64 laptop (HP Envy m6) that frequently chokes while connecting to network services like remote desktop, mapped network drives, and copying files from network locations. The connection will freeze or hang for 15 seconds to a minute before continuing. It happens frequently enough to be a major issue for the manager using the computer.
Here's the background situation: All the other computers in the office are running Windows 7 Ultimate (mix of x86 and x64), and connect to the network wirelessly, and none of them experience these network hangups. We run a file server with Windows 2008 SP2, an email and network controller server with OpenBSD 5, and have a TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N router.
So far, we've tried it on a wired connection, updated all of the networking drivers, and disabled the firewall without any change to the behaviour. Does anyone have any suggestions for other steps that we could take?
