Originally there was a DC that had exchange on it. (DC1) It was the only DC that the company had. This is going back 8 years. A couple of years ago we added a second DC (DC2) that its only role was to be the DC. We recently converted to office 365 and now have now use for the original DC1 with Exchange on it.
So I transferred all the FSMO roles to the second DC2 (so I thought, when i query for the FSMO it says they are all on DC2) I thought I could just turn off the DC1. Not so fast. When I turn off the DC1 all is fine until I try to restart DC2. DC2 wont even run. Computer cant log in nothing. I turn DC1 back on and everything is fine.
Both DC's are 2003 R2 standard .
DC1 physical
DC2 vm.
I use DC2 to create all users and manage domain.
Any thoughts?
