I see questions once in a while regarding this but I'm looking for some first hand experience.
One of our new customers is going to be transitioning from a Mac based ERP(yes they make one) to a Windows based one over the next 12 months.
In the meantime their entire business relies an old 24" iMAC running a 4D database. A few other Mac Mini's run other mission critical applications.
Its hanging on by a thread. Backup is limited to Time Machine and there is no off site/DR that we can do because there is no real full metal backup for Mac's off site, at least not at the enterprise level.
I'm trying to find a patch until we get things moved.
So several questions:
1. Is there P2V for OSX?
2. I need some semblance of speed. My choice is buy an older X-server so I can run RAID10 I think in 4 drives max. My other choice is if the Mac Pro is VMware certified I'd put in 2 enterprise level SSD's to get the speed out of it since I can only run RAID1. Put mission critical/speed critical stuff on the SSD's and the data on an NFS share on a NAS.
Has anyone successfully done this in a Mac Pro? I do not mean at home, I mean in a production environment?
If I can get it to work in VMware I can use Acronis and do full metal online through VMProtect. Licensing be damned in an emergency I could move the VM's onto a non-Apple ESXI server in a DR situation until we replace the Pro.
The ERP move is going to take a while. Want to shore up what they have and bring some kind of DR/BC program into place without stealing too much budget from the new setup.
I can throw 4-5 grand at this temp setup so either a Mac Pro or an old X-Serve.
Thanks
