So I have inherited a Domain back in October and I have been working on the issues since then and I now have come to trying to clean out my DNS servers I have records going back to 06 and They are starting to cause me some Issues so I found out that scavenging wasnt turned on so I turned it on and I tried to force it to scavenge now by right clicking the dns server in the dns manager.
well nothing happen so i when to CLI and run this command dnscmd /startscavenging and i get this error in return.
failed: status = 1722 (0x000006ba). command failed: RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE 1722 0x6BA
so i googled and found to try this command
repadmin /showreps
and i then get this error
LDAP error 81 (Server Down) Win32 Err 58.
I'm lost and confused now and starting to think i may have some major issues going on now,
I have a mix environment I have one 2008 R2 DC and it houses all of the FMSO roles and I also have 3 2003 r2 DCs. Even tho my PDC is 2008 my function level is still on 2003. We are looking to up grade to 2008 fully but wanting to clean up of domain before we do the upgrade so we can some what start fresh.
Does anyone have an idea whats i can do to resolve this?
