When in doubt, I turn to my SpiceHead brethren (and...sistren?) for help! (sidebar: I've been down this road before. "Sistren" is an actual term that means the female version of "brethren"!..it just hasn't been used since the 16th century!" Share that tidbit with friends at your next dinner party and watch them uncomfortably try to walk away!)
I made the mistake of impulse shopping on eBay and had convinced myself that I just had to have the Microsoft Surface. Partially, because my home laptop sucks a sack of doorknobs; partially because I don't own a tablet and really wanted one; partially because the commercials looked really cool; and partially because I'm a glutton for punishment (just ask Chat about my ongoing saga with trying to own the perfect smartphone because I steadfastly refuse to buy an iPhone!)
After comparison shopping, checking out reviews, and playing around with it in Amazon's showroom (aka "Best Buy"), I thought finding a brand new 64GB MS Surface RT with touch cover & keyboard for $425 shipped was a great deal (retails for about $600 brand new). So I hit that dastardly "Buy It Now" button and sat back waiting for my new toy!
When the package arrived last week, I started talking with one of my co-workers (won't call that person out here) who told me all of the awful things they heard about the limited number of apps, the OS' lack of speed, and that even Microsoft could be losing faith in the product and RT operating system altogether (Green Guys: feel free to chime in! I welcome your input to this discussion!) Coupled with my further research of how frustrated users seem to be with the Surface RT, I'm at the crossroads between wanting to open up my new device and start using it, and putting it right back up on eBay while I could still get most of my money back.
Knowing that I will primarily be using this device for the Office functionality, NetFlix, web surfing, and possibly reading books, is it worth holding onto? More importantly, if Microsoft considers this release a dud, and moves on to the next big thing, will they completely stop supporting users (and stop developing new apps)?
Please help. Whatever the consensus of the Community ends up being will dictate whether I keep or sell the dang thing! Thanks!
