I closely watch sites like AskWoody to get a feel for the safety level of Windows Updates. Unfortunately, I used myself as a guinea pig for the October cumulative update to 1803.
Shortly after the required reboot, I noticed that OneDrive for Business wouldn't launch, Sophos Endpoint Protection wasn't working properly, and our accounting software wouldn't launch. I've narrowed it down to an issue with a common DLL, kernelbase.dll. I removed the update right away. No errors were logged during the install or uninstall of the update.
The text below is an example of what I find in event viewer. Removing and installing these applications doesn't help. Trying another profile doesn't help.
