We are a Victorian public High School. We are going down the BYOD path with View and VMWare. Already we have 1300 users on a View system and all the devices are supplied. This has been very expensive for the school in the cost of Netbooks and the Govt monies are not promised for the future. As such we want to allow BYOD, but we are just curious as to what others have encountered and some of the pitfalls we need to avoid.
We already have the infrastructure solved but the areas we are not sure on are:
How do we monitor with SpiceWorks without an agent on their computers?
What are the legal ramifications of a student having their laptop/netbook damaged at school?
Should we be policing what is on their device and can we tech wise and legally?
We know where we stand from a tech point of view and they are unable to do anything on the network except connect to View, which is then very heavily policed and monitored. It is just the above issues that have raised a few doubts in our heads.
