I'm going to try this in a test Environment (as much as possible first) but wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. I've done a DC migration to 2016 last year, but that was at a small DR site. The DC I'm migrating next has the certification authority role installed, DNS, and DHCP. DHCP is currently split with another DC that will be replaced at a later time. I would like to implement DHCP Failover Cluster, which doesn’t look too difficult. I'm not sure I will have a problem with that. We have some stuff hard coded to some of our DCs, so I would like to re-use the IPs on the new DCs.
In what order should I do this Migration?
- Change the IP of the DC I’m replacing.
- Assign it to the new server
- Upgrade it to a DC
- Start moving over the certificate authority
- Then DNS and DHCP roles?
Thanks for the feedback!
