Please Help get SugarCRM connected to MySQL db running on the same server

Hello All,

I have managed to struggle through Linux version install to the Database Configuration screen. Getting the following error (screen shot). I went ahead and created sugarcrm database, but it is not helping.

Hoping ones who have set up SugarCRM (Linux version) will offer some suggestions. I am installing on CentOS 6.3. PHP ver 5.3.3 and MySQL ver. 5.1.66.
