We are currently transitioning our spam filtering system for our Microsoft Exchange 2003 server. While this was happening, one of our public folders was left unfiltered. At about 2:00PM today, it was slammed with 1.6 Million emails.
When I attempt to open the folder using Outlook, it crashes. I attempted using the System Manager to access the mailbox, but it just seems to hang as well. I've also tried using mfcMAPI to get access to the folder, but it is also just hanging.
Normally, I would just blow away the folder and think nothing of it. Unfortunately for me, there are important emails in the folder that cannot be deleted and my predecessor had gaffed the settings for our Exchange server to the point that I don't think DR is an option.
Anyone have some thoughts on how to purge some of these emails and get it to a usable state?
