Dyanmics 2009 service keeps shutting down

$

I'm trying to move a Dynamics Nav 2009 server to a new machine.  (we are migrating away and therefore are not going to upgrade ).  However, the  Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server keeps shutting down as soon as it starts.  There is NO port conflict, and I'm using the same domain ID to start the service as the one on the original machine.

Any guesses as to why it doesn't run?  I don't mind re-installing Navision if that's the solution.

Thank you

Freeware app for recovering data from faulty external HDD

Hi all

A client's home laptop HDD failed. I popped it into a USB 3.0 sata caddy and the drive can be seen in My Computer on a working PC. I can browse the Users and see My Docs, My Pictues, Music, Desktop etc. I've tried copying the directories from the faulty HDD to my own PC but it hangs everytime.

Is there an application out there that can scan what data can be retrieved from the faulty disk then dump it on the C drive of a working computer or even another external HDD.

As usual its holiday snaps etc that havn't been backed up that the user wants.

Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience and recommendations on the best ISO27001 management software?

I'm open to looking at solutions which are cloud based and hosted in house.

Looking for something that guides me through the controls and allows me to input against them, with some reporting functions. Basically GRC software which covers 27001.

Any help would be appreciated. Even better if you've used them yourself and can provide some feedback regarding the software.

One Time Password for FTP

So here is the scenario, our records department sends large packets (200-300 pages) of medical to outside vendors via fax. The traditional fax machine is to slow for them to get out everything they need to send, and our E-Faxing solution has been having problems sending packets this large.

My boss wants to set up an FTP system where they can put the document packets and then a One Time Password system, so that they can send the vendor a password that will allow them to access this and download the files. They want the password to work once for the vendor, then stop working.

I have never used any kind of One Time Password system, and neither has anyone on my team, so I am starting from scratch on this. Any assistance/suggestions would be appreciated.

MX Records

We recently switched hosting providers for our website, but our domain is still registered through our old hosting company. The website designer that we are working with is discouraging us from transferring the domain registration to the new company because she doesn't want to "mess up our email."

I'm confused about MX records. When does a website domain need to have MX records?

Let's say that our local domain is domain.org and that we have a hybrid Azure/O365 setup (users are managed in local AD and synced to Azure). We manage Exchange settings through the Exchange Admin portal online.

Our website is registered as www.domain.org, so same name as the local domain (DNS entry www points to host server IP).

I’m not sure why our website needs a DNS entry for our email servers (provided by Microsoft).

MS Word Form & Content Controls | SharePoint Online

My illustration will show you where I am stuck, but in essence the matter lies in form data rendering in the SPO Browser Mode vs. Edit in Word. We block Edit in Word as the users need to collaborate, but are barred from download. Users are required to Edit in Browser.

I have tried various workarounds, including attempts at modifying Word Options and adjusting SPO settings - all fruitless. What is going here and is there any resolution? I am even game for finding a script to automate an "open, save, and close" process in the background. Having an admin manually open each word doc is not feasible.

Who has seen this before, and what can be done? Thank you!

Is it worth dumping outdated IT Equipment

Hi all

We have a "backroom storage space" but this is part of the building's fire escape route.

This area is pretty filled with a lot of old and broken miscellaneous Office equipment (chairs, stools, cubicle dividers, whiteboards, etc.) but there is also a few bits of old IT Equipment- A Great Lakes server rack, a couple of old HP network switche, Avaya phones and switches, and a few random wireless routers and some other cables and old headsets, etc.

I have tried finding buyers for this stuff but to be honest, it's all so outdated that I'm not surprised no one is interested in them.

I'm based in Ireland and we have a WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) disposal area nearby our offices where I can dump the equipment to be recycled.

However, I'd like to know what you fellow Spice Heads would do in this situation?

Do you think I...

Storage Migration Advice

Hello Everyone!

I am getting ready to perform my first large storage migration. I just wanted to run my scenario by the community to see if you can provide any last minute tips, advice, etc:

I am moving roughly 8TB (1.5Million files) temporarily off of a Synology NAS so that it can be reconfigured. Once the reconfiguration is complete I plan on moving all of the files back onto the NAS.

Of the 8TB there are two volumes evenly split. This is production data, so it's obviously vital that there is 0% lost data.

I have Robocopied one of the volumes to my SAN ( which only has about 5 TB of storage free), and the other to a large external hard drive. I also have two additional external drives that have mirror copies of the production data in case something goes wrong during the migration.

I am going to perform the migration on a weekend and have...

Hello guys, I'm currently editing our new employee script for AD and I am running into an issue, I added 2 radio buttons for the home folder, one radio button will update the BaseHomeFolderPath to Path1 and the second will update it to Path2, I export the variable to a csv to verify that it works but it keeps showing up blank. I don't know if it is a scope issue or what I am doing wrong, any help will be greatly appreciated! Below is a copy of the code.

Dl380 G7 Blinking Red Status LED

$

Dear Forum Users, Yesterday I received a DL380 G7 in the post, it was working great, no problems at all. Today I go to setup more VM's in ESXI, to find out the server won't turn on. The power button has the orange light like normal, but the status LED is blinking red. If I unplug the power, and plug it back in, it will automatically turn on for 3 seconds, then turn off for 3, for about 10 cycles. After that if I press power it will do the same. I've already tried different psu, different cpus, different ram, different CMOS battery, different power cables, different raid cards, pretty much everything. I've been doing the usual googling for a few hours and nothings working. I've also tried reseeting the NVRAM, which fixed it for a few minutes, then back to this. Also, the component status panel has no lit LEDs.

Skype for Business - upgrade Edge server

$

Just in the process of upgrading from Skype for Business Server 2015 to the 2019 version.

Microsoft recommend "side-by-side" upgrade for the front-end pool. i.e. you keep your 2015 envrionment running and install 2019 alongside.

That has worked ok for the front-end.

For my Edge server I would prefer to upgrade that rather than having to build and deploy a new server as it's a brand new server anyway.

So can you get away with removing Skype 2015 and deploying Skype 2019 on the Edge server or does that path lead to a terrible place?

Why CBRS band is important to the future of 5G

Whether you’re a 5G skeptic or optimist, it will eventually happen at scale. And do that, operators need more spectrum and not just millimeter wave frequencies associated with high throughput but limited reach. Low-band will enable wide area coverage and mid-band provides a nice balance of coverage and capacity.

In this article, it discusses how many countries, mid-band spectrum, particularly the 3.5 GHz band, is a key piece of the 5G spectrum strategy. In the U.S., 3.5 GHz, known as the Citizens Broadband Radio Service band, has been tapped for shared access with opportunities for both operators and enterprises to respectively add additional capacity and invest in private networks while still support incumbent use from federal stakeholders.

On the vendor side for example, CommScope recently announced new antenna products for macro...

Subscription Services, Some General Questions

$

Our law firm owns four Fireboxes; two M200s and three T30-Ws. Our subscription suites are about to expire. I'm wanting to know if I need to renew these.
Here's our setup:
We have Comcast Fiber that direct connects three of our five offices. Of those three, all external traffic is directed through one of the M200s. So the other M200 is basically just a glorified router. The other two offices use Comcast Business via cable internet and BOVPN into to the main M200 Firebox.
We don't use any of the subscription services; Gateway Antivirus (we're an all Mac environment), IPS, WebBlocker, SpamBlocker (our email host has their own), R.E.D., and APT Blocker.
Of those, the one I'd possibly be interested in would be the intrusion prevention. The real concern for me is to keep the NAS servers secure and private. Yet, they are all Synology servers and...

GPO Leakage is there such a thing?

$

Hello Everyone,

My boss is convinced that GPO leaks over to machines that have no Group Policies applied. I told him it isn't possible. Am I wrong?

If it can be leaked over is it caused by a virus?

I'm just asking to see if anyone else has heard of such a thing like this.

Thanks.
