Remote Screen Sharing Tools Which DO NOT Require Internet Access

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can recommend some FREE software or application tools, which would allow LAN computers to share screens without needing access to the internet.

I have tried VNC without any success, I keep getting a connection error... not sure if it needs access to internet too?
