I have a 10 year old Dell PowerEdge 1600SC. I am trying to replace it and need to provide reasons to the management why we need to spend money.
Our setup and some history:
We run our business app on a UNIX server (it is also as old as the hills) and we are replacing it with a new software package running on a new server and Red Hat.
Our current infrastructure is 1 (10 year old) 2003 SP3 SBS; we have 5 CALs that let 5 users connect at a time. We have a share on this server that holds a Business Vision database, the accounting staff use this daily. We also have a couple of other shares that do not get used much. I need to log onto the server to kick off users so others can connect. Another reason I want to replace the unit.
The server runs DHCP, DNS, Backups and AD.
Because the bosses never connect to the box they never see the grief that the accounting dept. goes thru (or my grief) when they get denied.
They are making me provide “Iron Clad” reasons for asking for the funds.
Does anyone have a list of compelling reasons I can provide?
Thanks in advance,
ian
