I have a remote office where my old LTO 2 tape drive has finally died. I only have about 120GB of data nightly to backup so I really don't want to spend on something like an LTO 4 (which seems to be the smallest I can find) and then have to replace all of my tapes. I was shopping trying to see some options and stumbled on the powervault rd1000. has anybody used this? how would it work with BE? Do I just change the hd every day like a tape or can I store multiple days of backups on one hdd? Here is what I was thinking.
Buy 3 500GB drives with and it and use hdd1 on Mon, hdd2 on Tues, hdd3 on Wed, hdd1 on Thurs, and hdd2 on Fri, then hdd3 on the following Mon and so on. I'm sure BE will let overwrite the older backups if it needs space but I want to make sure that something like this will work. I'm using server 2003 and BE 2010.
I would be open to buying 2 larger hdds and swapping them on a weekly basis if that is better.
Any advice? I really don't have much money to spend on this.
