Recently was engaged to help a client set up a new Lenovo ThinkPad E530 purchased from Costco.
Unit would not boot from the DVD drive. Behavior: pressing F12 during boot provided Boot Device Selection, but upon selecting DVD, screen would go black for about 10 seconds, DVD drive light would be active, but then screen would revert back to Boot Device Selection. Updated the BIOS to the current version, failure persisted. No provision in the BIOS setup to distinguish between Legacy or UEFI. Lenovo sent a shipping box to have the system sent to Lenovo/Flextronics Depot Repair in Memphis TN.
Client opted instead to return the E530 to Costco for a refund, and purchased a second ThinkPad E530.
Second ThinkPad E530 also failed in identical fashion. Lenovo sent another shipping box to have the system sent to Lenovo/Flextronics Depot Repair in Memphis TN.
Client again elected to return the second ThinkPad E530 to Costco, this time purchasing a Lenovo IdeaPad U510.
This third unit also failed to boot from a DVD, with an additional nuance. Upon initially pressing F12 for Boot Device Selection, the DVD was initially listed as an option. The DVD failed to boot, and the screen reverted back to the Boot Device Selection options, at which point the DVD drive was completely missing from the selection of boot devices.
The fourth Costco computer purchase, an Acer Aspire V5 notebook, successfully booted from a DVD when selecting Legacy in the BIOS setup, as opposed to UEFI.
YMMV
