IT as an insurance center, not a cost center.

Found this thread in the Sysadmin subreddit today:

Writer basically makes the argument that IT since more and more IT services are hosted or "cloud" based then it should be treated more like insurance. Basic thought is however much money you throw at it the better it is.

I thought this would make an interesting discussion here. So what do you think?
