I had the opportunity to ask Jeff Teddleton of Axcient a few questions. He was kind of enough to give us a few minutes and share some of his thoughts about Axcient and their future in the Backup and DR space.

Hello and Thank You for taking the time, break, or for hiding from your boss to spend a few moments to share some of your thoughts and insight about Axcient, and about yourself.

Q. To start, why don’t you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you currently do for Axcient and your title.

A. Jeff Teddleton, VP of Operations. I am responsible for all internal and customer facing services Axcient provides. I am from KY, married for 17 years, have 3 beautiful daughters, and I live in Morgan Hill

Q. Ok, so you do X, and have been doing it how long now? Is this something you went to school for or just kind of had a natural ability/interest for and fell into it?

A. I have been in Operations for over 20 years and studied MIS at Western Kentucky University

Q. Now the hard hitting stuff – You are being stranded on a desert island and are offered three music CD’s, what’s your choice?

A. 38 Special – Wild Eyed Southern Boy, Bob Segar – Turn the Page, Queen, Rush, Eric Clapton

(Mike) Sounds like you would enjoy a trip to Austin; half of those groups have played here at some point.

Q. The Storage and Backup sector can be quite competitive, what do you see Axcient doing to carve out its piece and how do you help with that?

A. Axcient is building a SaaS platform from the ground up to eliminate IT downtime for the SMB marketplace. We are the only company building such a platform on our own IP.

Q. Ok, so every visitor or community member has answered this in some fashion, how do you prepare your bacon? If you don’t eat bacon…then I am not sure I can protect you from the ravenous bacon fans here on Spiceworks.

A. Applewood smoked slab bacon, laid out on sheet trays. Prepared in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. I have several hundred applications for bacon.

(Mike) I am happy to see another oven bacon cook, I can’t think of a better way myself.

Q. Every industry or field has room for improvement. Being someone who is about process and procedures, where do you think this field can be more efficient, and closer to home, how do you think Axcient can improve in those areas that benefit its customers?

A. Innovation in every part of our service. Better, faster and more robust local backups, WAN optimization to transfer data to our datacenter and more efficient storage of critical data in our data centers. When Axcient improves each of these our customers will benefit by having near continuous data replication, which means near real-time backups. When the data is that fresh it is infinitely more valuable.

(Mike) That is fantastic to hear. Be sure to let the Spiceheads know if any testing goes external. They tend to enjoy trying to break things for others!

Q. Where do you see Axcient growing in the future? Perhaps, if you could tell us what is getting their focus right now in the sector and what they might be doing to assert themselves in that area?

A. Axcient will continue to grow in the SMB space and expand into the mid-market in the US and in Europe.

Q. So what about Axcient and the people keep you excited to come to work every day?

A. We simply have great people who are very serious about solving very big problems and having a good time doing it.

Q. And lastly, I always like to end by giving you an opportunity to say what you would like in case we did not ask the right questions ….be nice! So, with that said I leave this as about as open as can be: “What would you like to say to the spiceheads?”

A. I love spice. I love spiceheads. Bring me more spice…

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some of our silly questions, but also give us a peek into the people of Axcient and their future direction.

As always spiceheads, if you have any further questions for Jeff or any other Axcient team member, do not hesitate to post them here!
