2016/2019 Core Licensing

$

I keep going around in circles with this. Can someone help me grasp this?

Scenario:

I need to license 4 Windows Server VMs.

My ESXiHosts have 2 processors with 6 cores each.

We want to be licensed for failover to a second host.

Hypothesis:

I think I need to purchase 64 cores. My logic is that (with the 16 core minimum per host/server) 16 cores would be required for every 2 VMs. This results in 32 cores for one host. The second 32 cores would license the other host for failover.

I'm looking forward to the help, everyone.

I received unwanted email looking like some internal user sent it. But it was not him. All basic procedures where in place but I only found an IP address where that email was generated from.

I am trying to find out if there is an option to block sender IP address in Mimecast?

SpiceCorps in Western Los Angeles

Would there be anyone interested in a SpiceCorps West LA? I'd love to attend the SpiceCorps LA Meetup but often find they are to far away and too early in the evening to get there in time after work. I'm wondering if there are enough SpiceHeads on the West Side (Westwood, Santa Monica, Venice, etc.) to warrant a SpiceCorps West LA. Respond if interested!

Is there a way to migrate to Office365 without outages?

I am trying to build an email migration project where I will move accounts from agore@company.com to al.gore@company.com but I want to move from a local ISP to Office365 at the same time.

If I setup Office365 though, without making changes to my DNS records, any existing Office365 client sees that I am an office365 account and the emails stop working.  I get a bounceback saying that my IP is not allowed to send email from company.com and I suspect it is because Offiec365 is expecting to be the owner of that company.com domain.

Is there a way to setup an office365 account and prep all the accounts without telling other office365 clients that we are live yet?

Hi Folks,

I am trying to run a script located on a target machine via a remote powershell session. I can successfully logon using the following command:

Text
Enter-PSSession -ComputerName servername -Credential domain\user

I can execute the following without issue as a test to see if commands can be run:

Text
[remoteserver.lab.local]: PS C:\Users\server\Documents get-vm -Name SOMEVM Name State CPUUsage(%) MemoryAssigned(M) Uptime Status ---- ----- ----------- ----------------- ------ ------ SOMEVM Running 0 2000 10:29:40 Operating normally

I have a script stored locally, with a number of get-wmi entries and when I run it, I get a lot of access denied responses:

Text
Get-WmiObject : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) At C:\Users\Desktop\script.ps1:13 char:24 + $VMWMIPRODLOGDSK = Get-WmiObject...

License Key Question

Hey SpiceHeads, I need a little bit of info and a bit of assistance as well...

I had a question about SpiceWorks HD -- I needed to find out if there were a way to go across my business network to obtain the license keys of installed software, so we can see where the different license keys are installed (which machine by name), and I was not sure if that were possible, so I wanted to reach out to you guys and see what solutions everyone had in place for licensing issues?

Let me know, please? Thanks!

Office365 for US Governments

I have a small town municipal client who just secured a .gov domain. Up to this point the client has been using a .com domain and Office 365 Enterprise E3. I recently became aware that Microsoft offers Office 365 for US Governments, for which the client can qualify. I'm looking for feedback from anyone with experience with the Microsoft Governments offerings on how much the environment differs from what I am accustomed to with E3. I need to decide whether to stick with our non-government E3 plan, or make a switch to a government plan. Thanks for any feedback.

ASA5505 - New ISP - Windows SBS server DNS issue

Hello:

Today I had to install a new ISP into a Cisco 5505 for a remote office of ours...

Tunnel is up passing Phase1 and Phase2.  I can SSH into the new external IP all looks good from a networking standpoint *I believe.

However DNS from a Windows SBS server is not working.  It was not touched before this cutover so the only change was to the WAN IP on the 5505.  We can ping 8.8.8.8 from the users PCs but unable to hit google.com etc..  We cannot ping 8.8.8.8 from the SBS server.

The SBS was setup with the DNS to point to itself inside its NIC then the forwarders were blank in the admin controls.  Again nothing was changed other then the WAN IP on the firewall.

Any help guidance would be greatly appreciated.

How long does TPM keep information?

I recently reformatted a computer that had a managed image on it. By policy, it is required to be encrypted with Bitlocker. I ended up putting a fresh install of Windows on it (can't recall the version, but it's from April). I opened up the computer and am now locked out via Bitlocker. It even has the previously assigned computer name. Is it safe to assume that TPM kept the previous information on it and triggered bitlocker? I have only had the newly formatted system running for about two weeks.

SonicWall Popup for Blocked Sites - not working

Working on a new TZ400 and have a few sites blocked. When user tries to go to them, one is Facebook. The browser spins awhile and then returns "This Page cannot be displayed". So it is blocked but much better when the popup comes up stating why, the administrator or I change to Company name has blocked. I noticed this on a customers new TZ400 last month but they said as long as the site was blocked they were OK with it. So today I am setting up for our shop, we have never had anything blocked but the powers above me gave some sites to block. I would much rather the users see the popup instead of wondering if something is wrong with internet and come ask me. So I ask SW support, they did not have a direct answer but said that is would do the popup if we had one of these DPI-SSH or DPI-SSL license, which we do not and never have for...

For my home, I have about 32 patch cables which I would rather setup patch panel with cable management done and install switches and router.

I have no experience with installing patch cables to patch panel / and would love to hear recommendations on good patch panel, and rack, with good cable management and access from the sides that I can buy.

Thank you !

Search between host and server not working

I have a user that is having a problem with searching mapped drives from her workstation(s).

The interesting thing is that searching works for her when on the terminal server.

Users in this environment have gpo in place for redirected folders.

I've tried building her a new local profile and testing searching again, but the issue persists.

I've verified her computer is getting the gpo applied to it.

The sync center has completed a sync.

I made sure the server where the files are hosted has indexing enabled as well as Windows Search feature enabled and that the requisite service "Windows Search" is running.

All that being said, I am fresh out of ideas.

Dell NSA 4650 Firewall and Dell N1548 vlan setup

I am trying to setup the VLAN's for our network. We have a Dell NSA 4650 appliance and several N1100 and N1500 series switches that we need to configure with Vlans. I am new to the VLANs on dell devices. I think I have it pretty well figured out but I am having a huge issue with getting DHCP to work. Here is a basic setup:

  • X24:V30
  • x24:v40
  • x24:v50
  • etc.
X24 is connected through single mode 10Gbe fiber connectors via SFP+ to the N1548P switch (everything is fiber backbone so none of these devices are in the same building) I am trying to set Vlan 30 up with DHCP, but vlan 40 and 50 are static only. The problem is that I can't get DHCP to work on Vlan 30.

Managing DNS through Office 365

When adding a new domain to Office 365, there is an option to manage DNS through Office 365. For anyone who has experience managing DNS through O365, is it as useful as other DNS management interfaces such as those available through GoDaddy, ENOM, Network Solutions? If I went the O365 route for DNS management, would I regret it later when records need to be added or updated?

Outlook 2016 Event ID 1000 - Random Crashes (OUTLMIME.DLL)

I have a buddy that is using Outlook 2016 for his email. Just recently (about two months ago) his outlook would randomly crash. Here are the following I have tried so far;

1. Repair Office Suite

2. Re-Install Office Suite (Web installer)

3. Disable "Microsoft Exchange Addin" and "Social Connector Addin"

I am now in the process of rebuilding the OST file. By renaming the old OST file to .bak and restarting Outlook 2016.

I just noticed as well his email server is Google Apps, based on his MX records pointing to Google, but not sure if that could cause any issues. Below are the Event ID info I was able to pull from Event Viewer;

SRA RDP Language settings

We have a few users who connected with the SSLVPN client, then RDP to a server using an application shortcut.

When they use the SRA Bookmark Terminal Server feature to access the RDP Server application the only draw back seems to be the lack of keyboard language detection.

Wondering if anyone knows a way to get the feature working.

We can work around this by having them continuing to use the SSPVPN and RDP, or by having them use the SRA and connect to the desktop instead of an application as a work around.

Switching DNS providers, say what?

$

Greetings Everyone!

Today, I am tasked with something I have no experience with.

We need to transfer our DNS hosting to another place. Currently, we have ns1, ns2, and ns3 setup, and one of them is located on our network. The other two name servers is what we need to move.

I have been looking at different DNS providers, particularly ClouDNS, RackSpace, and Cloudlfare, We are a small company, with only one office, and most of our clients are in the US, with just a couple in europe. What i'm not too sure about is the DNS zones that are being offered, One plan is offering 40, a free option is just 4, but without knowing what they do, it's hard for me to gauge what we need.

Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in a DNS provider, or even maybe recommend a couple to me?

Thanks!!!!
