Spark! Amateur Series - November 13

Today in History: 2006

In February 14, 2005, 3 former PayPal employees started a website that let you uploadand share your video. YouTube brought a new idea of putting your creations on the internet. However, their creation got very popular. It cost a lot of money to run and the company couldn’t keep up with costs. Enter: Google. They purchased the site from the founders for $1.65 billion on October 9. Today marked the completion of this acquisition.

The Funnies:

On the Menu Today -Candied bacon

I did say I'd cover this today, I did warn you all. Normal service has resumed. Yesterday was a rarity, I promise it won't happen often. But those samosas were still good.

Anyway candied bacon. Whoever came up with this is ridiculous and a genius, all mixed into one. Sugar on bacon, what a combination. I'm sure there's a quote somewhere from...

DOM-based Cross-site Scripting (from now on called DOM XSS) is a very particular variant of the Cross-site Scripting family and in web application development is generally considered the amalgamation of the following:

  • The Document Object Model (DOM) – Acting as a standard way to represent HTML objects (i.e.
    ) in a hierarchical manner.
  • Cross-site Scripting (XSS) – A specific Web Application vulnerability.

Hello all,

So bit of a weird issue... when using my PC the monitor will randomly just go black and display no signal. Tried another monitor still does the same thing. The only thing that gets the monitor to come back on is restarting the PC.

Any ideas what it could be?

Office365 - resource not bookable by everyone with/without delegates

I'm looking for a way to implement these two maybe non-normal resource calendar behaviors (on two different resources)
  • only two people can book a room, but they can book it without a delegate (AutoProcess on). Nobody else can book this resource but they get a respons like "you shall not book this!"
  • only two people can book a room (without delegate, AutoProcess on) and all others do it with a delegate (and the delegate is not one of the two people)
My first run for number 2 with
Powershell
Set-CalendarProcessing-Id$resname1-AutomateProcessingAutoAccept-AllBookInPolicy$false-AllRequestInPolicy$true-BookInPolicy$bookers1-ResourceDelegates$delegate1
did not work out too good.
My test user is in $bookers1, I can book the resource now. No problem.
But anyone not in $bookers1 get a tentative... And the delegate has no mail...

Migrating from Exchange 2013 dot.local domain to Exchange 2016 split-domain

A bit of a bind here as the traditional Microsoft Exchange Migration walk-through tool does not really cover my scenario. I inherited an existing network to look after. Small company with 40 internal staff and 80 external sales reps. On premises Exchange 2013 server. My goal is to migrate this to a new 2016 Exchange Server I have installed on a parallel network inside the same company, on a new domain which matches the actual external domain (split-dns)

So right now it is mail.company.com externally and ServerEXCH.abc.local internally. Single Exchange 2013 server with a real SSL Cert installed for mail.company.com. Third-party external DNS resolves to internal server for outside users.

Since the cert on the existing server expires soon I figured lets kill two birds with one migration and install Exchange 2016 in a new split-dns domain...

We run a hybrid exchange system with an on-prem server and Office365 inthe cloud. We are an education establishment with students and staff all in teh same active directory set up.

Is there a way to easily identify students as such when looking at the global address book? I don't know if you can use any of the attributes in AD to add an identifier to the email account?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

How can i save message questions from Skype room meeting?

Hello.

We have setup a skype room system and its working very well, but i cant seem to find out how to export the chat from the meeting.

We get some questions on the chat while we are running webinars, and when the webinar is finished we want to save those messages to a file so we can address them direct in email to the user who asked them.

But the messaged from the skype room meeting does not seem to be stored in the conversations folder in outlook for any user that was part of the meeting? why? normal skype 2 skype conversation does get stored here.

Where can i find this or how can i have a good solution to store questions from the meeting?

What do you think "How long a call can wait in the queue" means?

From here:

ADDITIONAL: The AD group that the Call Queue points at contains just one member of staff (i.e. there is only one Attendant in the group/queue).

Any suggestions are highly appreciated. The Write-Host list the formatted data on the screen but the csv is not showing any data or sometimes is just displaying column title as "length" nothing else.

How long is a piece of tape (Tape Library Choices)

Hi All - looking to replace my ageing IBM TS3200 48 slot, 2x LTO5 drives library.

Kind of narrowed down to IBM TS 4300 with 2x LTO7 drives 32 slot capacity or Quantum Scalar I3 library 2x LTO7 drives 50 slots capacity.

They come in about same price and LTO7 I need for backwards compatibility with my Ultrium 5 tapes.

Any thoughts on choice? or other alternative libraries?

NOTE: no need or desire for cloud backup at this point.

Many Thanks!

David

Dell PowerEdge R910 - one of the PSUs will not come online after reboot

We have a Dell PowerEdge R910 that's out of warranty.

After reboot, I'll get an alert that one of the PSUs is unplugged.

If I unplug that PSU from the outlet and then plug it back in again, it works.

Do I just buy a new PSU and hope that's the problem?

Cisco SG550X Layer 3 Routing

I am working with a Cisco SG550X-48P switch that was installed about 6 months ago.  We have about 6 VLANS configured on this switch that are currently being routed on our Watchguard firebox.  We have discussed to use the sg550x to perform layer 3 routing in ourdepartment, but I am not understanding the configuration of this switch to perform L3 routing, or what benefits this would give us.  Has anyone implemented l3 on one of these switches that could give me the rundown of how this was configured and how it is working for you.

If I can provide any further information that would be helpful in guiding suggestions please let me know

Thank You

Gmail gsuite blocked senders can't wildcard subdomains? seriously?

$

Started my morning with a support chat with gsuite to verify wildcard acceptance in the blocked senders admin.  Should have known it was all going to be craptacular when the "support" person asked to clarify what a wildcard was.

Issue:  random sub domains from .ocn.ne.jp spamming us.

Such as wind.ocn.ne.jp ocean.ocn.ne.jp and so on.  Google says it's not possible to *.ocn.ne.jp wonderful.

Suggestions?  I'm going to try some other routing, but i'm pretty disappointed with that answer.

Recent Spike in Emotet Spam Campaign

https://www.welivesecurity.com/2018/11/09/emotet-launches-major-new-spam-campaign/

Based on our monitoring, Emotet is the single most prolific spam/phishing campaign currently operating. It is also very effective, according to our intelligence sources. Much of that may be attributed to the fact that it is constantly changing it's shape, rendering signature-based defenses virtually useless. From the article:
"Note that new builds of Emotet binaries are released approximately every two hours, so hashes may not be the latest available. "

What Outlook rules were applied to an email?

$

I searched but haven't found this on SW.

I have a user that is having emails sent to his Deleted Items folder. I have searched both his old and new PC (both had different office versions, 2010 and o365) and neither of them had any rules created.
I checked OWA, no rules there either.
Both PC's Outlook installations give the message that there are rules that are being applied from a different device, but I can't find where.
The user assures me that he doesn't have Outlook on his phone, doesn't have it or use his work email outside of work.

We use o365, I searched in Security and Compliance but haven't found anywhere in there that might show what rules were applied after the email was delivered to his email address/mailbox.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!
