Proofpoint Essentials Azure sync won't accept key.

tl;dr: Azure only generates keys with "special characters", but Proofpoint won't accept keys with special characters. WTF.

We use Proofpoint Essentials as a spam filter. It is supposed to sync with Azure AD to get newly created users every hour. We had a problem where new users weren't getting any incoming mail. I found out that the key Proofpoint uses for the connection to Azure had expired. That stopped the sync so any new users created would not get incoming email because they weren't listed in the spam filter. In order to create a new key I followed the instructions provided by Proofpoint's website: https://support.proofpointessentials.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/231/43/azure-active-d...

Creating the key is a very simple process: log in to Azure AD and generate a key with a couple clicks. There are not any options for...

World Backup Day: 2019 Survey Results

As World Backup Day 2019 approaches this Sunday, the results of Acronis’ global annual survey regarding the public’s knowledge and habits of data protection are in – and with 65 percent of consumers reporting data loss by themselves or their family members, it looks like 2018 was a particularly dangerous year.
In addition, as CEOs and other C-level executives increasingly lose their jobs following data incidents, the 2019 survey also marked the first time we’ve polled business professionals regarding their knowledge and data protection habits as well.
The findings of this year’s World Backup Day Survey reveal some notable contradictions between consumer beliefs and practical choices, as well as an interesting contrast between the value people and businesses place on their data’s value and the steps they take to protect it.

5 Tips to help you say bye to bad WiFi

Image: The Economic Times

We've recently been talking about the struggles businesses have with WiFi connections, and found that ina recent survey of 1,000 UK businesses, 89% said they had experienced at least one problem with their Wi-Fi system that meant they couldn’t meet business needs. This included slow connections (38%), coverage problems (18%), dropped connections (33%) and more.

To aid those with poor connection, we wrote up5 tips to help better your business WiFi:

  1. Find and eradicate Wi-Fi dead spots -It’s likely that some locations in your office or business premises will have a weaker Wi-Fi signal than others, and possibly some areas may have no signal at all (a dead spot). Businesses shouldlocate areas with poor signal strength or crowded Wi-Fi channels.
  2. Place your router optimally -As hinted above, the placement of your...

Change users PST Archive to O365

I have a few users with large PST files 30GB+ that live on our file server, we have EO1 licenses and outlook 2013, but they sometimes use the web app or their phone to access email and because they are not on location the archive file is not available. I see how I can use  azcopy to move the PST to O365 and have it as a folder but what do I do about future archives, I also see the Archive Mailbox feature in the security and compliance section. My question is would the correct thing to do here be flip on the archive in the o365 portal for that user and then turn off the PST archiving on the outlook client. will it suck up the Archive items in the PST or do I need to upload the PST to a folder and run the archive, I feel that would give me an odd folder structure though like Archive/Archive for the original pst archives

Outlook 2016 can't connect to exchange online after enabling MFA

3 weeks ago for one of our clients, we enabled MFA in Office 365, and it rolled out great, no issues. Everyone was running outlook 2016.

Yesterday morning, I turned it on for another client, also all using outlook 2016. It worked ok for a day, but now when they open Outlook, it can't connect to the exchange server anymore. It just keeps prompting for a password over and over. For every single user. But only on desktop. Mobile is still fine.

I tried repairing office, I tried patching it to the latest build, I tried recreating the mail profile, and none of it works. I just reverted the entire thing.

This is an E3 tenant, so running pro plus. All computers are running Windows 10 Pro

Weird issue with Windows 2012 R2 server folder security

Hi team

Today I ran into a weird issue with folder permissions.
There is that HR folder that only has a few people allowed to access it.
Even with my "normal" account, I am not allowed.
Retrieving "Effective Access" with my user shows all red...
When I try to access the HR folder using \\servername\HR$ (it's a hidden folder) from a "normal" Windows 10 PC, I get error message "Cannot acccess".
So far so good.

For daily operations I use a Linux Mint Host with Virtual Box and some Win10 clients.
When I go to that HR$ folder from a Virtual Win10, using my "normal" user, I get full access to the folder.
So it looks like the Virtual Box / Linux Mint combination somehow messes up the folder permissions on the server.
Anyone experienced the same problem????

Azure DevOps Migration to Another Company?

We use Azure DevOps (Visual Studio Team Services) for quite a few employees here.  All data and licensing has been configured under https://dev.azure.com/company1/

We are moving away from the O365 tenant Company 1 is associated with, and need to migrate all data over to a new company that does not use DevOps yet.

Can someone please advise the process of how this is achieved.  I have been reading a few guides but information seems to explain only parts of what i need to do.. i think

I do however get prompted to enter my credentials after logging onto the server to start Server Manager.

What am I doing wrong?

I know I bang on about how goot Windows Admin Center (WAC) is, and it's the future etc.

Well today Microsoft announced the 1903 Preview of WAC and it's so exciting I have to shout it out!

So with it being in preview that means only WIndows Insiders can download it, but it should be available within a month or so for all users (fingers crossed)

#1 - Email notifications for alerts in the WAC

#2 - Active Directory USers and Groups management tool

#3 - DHCP management

#4 DNS management

#5 Adding new connections by searching Active Directory

These are all huge new additions with more coming every month.

Read the full announcement here

It is quick to download and test, I can thoroughly recommend it!.

I'll try to make this as short as I can. One of my clients has two sites connected with a VPN. User at Site A says their program crashed and they can no longer access a shared drive. The shared drive is housed at Site B. Spent about three hours looking at logs, checking network settings, and trying to find out why this share disconnected for everyone at Site A. It works fine at Site B and nothing indicates why it is not working. I check the logs on the switch and gateway from Site B and see there is a duplicate IP error. I misread the log and didn't see that the gateway IP was duplicated somewhere. My boss ended up going to Site B since I was at Site A and they are roughly an hour away. We are going out of our minds trying to figure out what caused the file server to act this way. It was reachable from Site A for about 30 sec to a...

endpoint security monitoring and prevent solution

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some third party service that allows vulnerability scanning and end point security solution for on prem + Azure.

Regards to this we have tested Darktrace appliance on prem that allows to scan any suspicious activity in your network. Though we are pretty impressed with Darktrace but seems little expensive for non financial sector/banking company to spend this much just on security.

We have 4 sites in total and every site does have Fortinet firewall.Mix of HA and standalone. Office 365 enterprise E5 customer so we have also tested Azure cloud security app which allows to monitor end point clients activity and pretty impressive when it comes as an free app with office 365.

Rapid7 seems good as an vulnerability and network scanner tool but cost and functionality have big issue to make final decision.

For endpoint we...
