Stuck At Home With An Old Monitor? Maybe Now Is A Good Time To Upgrade!

Quarantine Diary; Day 6:

The adjustment to a digital existence is becoming challenging. The lack of human contact and search for toilet paper is taking a toll. I am also particularly aware of badly I need a monitor upgrade after being forced to use my own now for work. Maybe I couldn't justify it before being that it's my gaming monitor but I certainly could if I called it a business expense? I've already spruced up the place with some new houseplants and lighting so why not the device I am spending a majority of my day on now? May as well find a silver lining in this rather strange time!

Microsoft RDP App and RDS Remote Desktop Connectivity

Hello,

I've been searching the web, but I'm either not phrasing this correctly or not familiar enough with the product...

We have a RDS environment with very few published apps. Most of the use case is for someone to use their home PC to connect back to their work desktop to do work remotely. It's simple, it works, and we've been doing it for years. See the screenshot below.



With the Coronapocalypse in full force, we're having a lot of staff working for home, and more staff are needing to do this. Up to this point, only Windows-based laptops/computers have been supported. We're having more and more requests to use Chromebooks or MacBooks as that is what some staff use for personal devices. It could even be iOS or Android devices as well.

Can the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from each respective app store allow staff to connect back to...

We are switching from a local file server to SharePoint Online. 

Question: if a user syncs certain SP folders to their personal computer for offline access and then leaves the company, is there a way for the O365 admin to remotely wipe those offline company files from that computer?

    AD integration with cloud issue

    I am migrating my on prem Spiceworks to Spiceworks cloud version. Having issues with the AD integrations. I Have already followed the instructions on the forum and installed the Auth Server on 2 separate servers but when i go to the user portal it gives me an error.(See pic attached).

    How to make sure employee personal computer is secured ?

    We have employees who will start working remotely from home using their personal devices. 

    Will setup VPN on their personal machine so they can RDP into their workstation, but before I want to make sure that their personal computer is secured.


    I was thinking of running antivirus scan + Malwarebytes + windows updates.

    Any other suggestion would be appreciated !

    What have been your best ways to Communicate to Employees during Covid-19

    How are you communicating with all of your employees during this time?  We have a estimated 280 total employees.

    We have been communicating with our customer with Social Media and Email blasts but how are you staying in contact with employees?

    We have been doing group texts and mass e-mails (not all employees have company emails) or even a home computers.  We also have looked at doing a phone tree. 

    What platforms are you all using for communication with employees? Is anybody using a phone call out service? Text Message Methods? 

    We also discussed doing webinar's during this time for our customers but we do not want to show who all maybe on that call. 

     Does anybody have any recommendations on a platform that would allow functionality?

    RDP remote microphone quality

    I am trying to use a microphone on a Windows 10 PC client who is using RDP into another Windows 10 PC. I have successfully shared audio from the remote PC back to the client and the microphone from the client to the remote PC. 

    The issue I am having is the microphone quality is bad. It sounds kind of like when someone talks in front of a fan when it is on. This was tested on a LAN so bandwidth should not be an issue. The microphone sounds fine on the client so no issues with the microphone itself.

    Any ideas on how I can improve the microphone quality? The remote audio sound great. Only issue is the microphone.

    Cannot join windows server r2 to domain.local

    I have 5 VMware virtual machines, I have one of them setup as a domain (domain.local), with ip of 192.x.x.1 no default gateway.. I have three other virtual machine that are joined to this domain except for one. When I try to set the network share settings I get the following

    I compared it to the other vm machines and they all joined no problem except for this one. All my settings are correct but it does not like the DNS 192.x.x.1. Any ideas how I can resolve this?

    After internet change (same router) RDS no longer connecting

    Hi guys,

    A while back, we setup a server for a client and I had a lot of help from another tech at the same setting the RDS side up. He created a self assigned cert and we use a specific domain rds.X.com to remote in.

    Today, I swapped them over from an old ISP to ATT and put the router in passthrough modem to our own router we use. I think it may be something related to the public IP change that is no longer letting us connect using the domain, and we also cannot connect via the current public IP:3389.

    Forwarding for both 443 and 3389 are setup  and I tested 443 (TCP protocol) and it shows open. 

    Any ideas? Maybe certificate or IP change?

    I'm trying create a powershell script to add a VPN to a user's computer, but I can't seem to figure out how to specify the authentication method I want.

    The above script does almost everything correctly except it sets the EAP type to EAP-TTLS, but I want it to be EAP-MSCHAPv2. Removing the -ttls option makes the script fail.

    Upgrade options Windows 10

    So we've had to buy 30 laptops recently (because of you know what..) but all we could get our hands on were a bunch of Laptops with Windows 10 home preinstalled on them.

    My idea was to push out our image of Windows 10 Pro and by an upgrade key to bang in.  Turns out though that Microsoft want £219 for a full version of Windows 10 Pro instead of the £119 for an upgrade!

    Is there a way to pay the upgrade cost (even from a third party supplier) as opposed to the full £219?  Just seems daft having to boot the laptop up into Windows 10 Home first, then upgrading it at the reduced rate, to then wiping it clean with a Pro license...

    Metasploitable VM wont run

    I am trying to setup a Metasploitable VM for Pentesting with Kali Linux for the first time. I'm running Windows 10 Pro 1909 on a Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming laptop that has no issues running a Kali Linux and Windows 10 VM side by side.

    VMWare Workstation 15 Player: I have tried creating a new virtual machine and opening a virtual machine. In following the guide here: https://www.offensive-security.com/metasploit-unleashed/requirements/, using the Metasploitable.vmx file, I get the error: "VMware Player and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Player can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details." I click OK and then: "Error while powering on: Transport (VMDB) error - 14: Pipe connection has been broken."

    I created a new DWORD value named LsaCfgFlags...
