Simple role securty matrix tool (user side)

Hi

Looking to change one company from simple user and group permissions applied to users, to more of a "role" security model.  e.g. user X  performs roles A, B and C.  So once authorisation comes in, IT know for roles A, B and C the user needs to be in groups A, B, C and delegated mailbox X and given software Y.

Small company, so this can all fit on an excel spreadsheet, but as they grow the number of "roles" will increase and/or become more granular etc.

(Security/settings applied in multiple places, standalone CRMs/portals etc, not a single AD).

Excel is workable - but I feel there must be a few tools out there designed for this that can be used?  (Not enterprise scale, ideally free/cheap, and not "dev/sql" oriented)

Thoughts welcome :)

in the pic below, you see more than 500 devices in France, though i only have about 10, there is something weird and i have no idea who to contact about that, nor does DELL in Germany for that matter.I just got off the phone and nobody can help me, nor can i find any decent info on the webstie about this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on who to call or write?

Spark! Semi Pro Series - March 28

Today in History: 1979

At 4 PM EST, the nuclear reactors in Middletown, PA (Dauphin County) experienced a partial meltdown. The incident was officially rated a 5-of-7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale: Accident with wider consequences.

A stuck open pilot relief valve was to blame for the incident in the primary system. The valve allowed for nuclear reactor coolant to escape into the atmosphere. During the event, the EPA was dispatched where they took daily samples of the air to make sure the levels were not harmful to the community.

The evacuation of Middletown was ordered 28 hours later – mostly women and children. Only half of the 663,500 population evacuated within a 20 mile radius.

TPLink EAP110 WiFi VLANS

Hello,

We are rolling out the EAP110s with the Omada Controller across the school to provide a new Wireless Network upgrade from the current 10 Year Old system.

We have a dedicated VLAN for the WiFi which gives out a specific IP range (10.14.164.x) - We have put the EAPs on the correct however when clients connect to the network they still seem to gain IP addresses on the hard wire VLAN range (10.12.164.x)

How can I setup the system so that devices get an IP address from the correct range? This is my first WiFi rollout so not sure if its something specific within the system or if ive done something wrong? Any help is appreciated :)

How do you clean your machines of dust

Hi

Just started a new role at a UPVC window manufacturer with 40+ endpoints. We have a few desktops in the production areas that get very dusty. This also affect most of the other desktops as well.

I have been tasked with implementing a regular service and clean of all machines and was wondering how you clean out the crud inside as it has not happened in other organisations I've worked at?

I thought I'd get some air dusters, but I think it will be expensive to use on a regular basis. The MD suggested using the air hose from the compressor, but I don't think that would be a good idea.

I've also found these on amazon:

Email on failed login to domain server (event id 4625)

I want to set up an email alert when there is a failed log in on a domain server (event id 4625).

I have been readinghttps://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1064488-email-alert-for-failed-login-attempts?page=1 which has some info in, but some of the links are not working anymore, specifically the link to send an email via powershell.

I want to be able to receive an email with the attempted user name and which server it was from.  I intend setting this up on every server so that I can see if any local accounts are trying to be used as well.

TIA.

Relating Devices to Tickets

I'm wondering how others use the related devices. Do you relate a users device to any ticket created by that user or only where the device in question has an issue?

I can potentially see a use for both scenarios. However, I'm thinking if you assign a device only when the ticket relates to a problem on the device, you can then report back on number of tickets logged to a device and can identify problematic devices.

I would like to trigger a once off password reset to all users in our domain. What is the best method to do this?

I thought about creating a new GPO and adding it to groups or maybe a new fine grained policy?

Recovery Point Retention recommendation for Azure Site Recovery

$

Hi,

Our 3 most important servers(vmware vm's) are replicating to Azure Site Recovery which was setup by an external IT company.

They had originally setup the Retention policy with a 24 hour Recovery Point Retention but recently changed this to 72 hours which has caused our Azure bill to almost double.

Can anyone advise what they would recommend as Recovery Point Retention?

find the info about the All Access event in London 27th June ?

Really interested in attending but have to justify it first.

Thanks for any help.

Moving acquired companies to domain of parent company

So our company has been acquiring distributors to be company owned. We have decided we want the sites all to be on the main domain to make it easier for support, GPO, etc. All the users already have AD user accounts on the parent company domain due to on-prem Exchange server. The acquired sites that were small and just workgrouped are easy to change over - but those few that have domain controller, file servers, etc. I'm not sure how to proceed. If we used the ADMT - wouldn't that migrate over the old login names from their AD to the parent AD - we don't want that since they already have login on parent AD (not same naming conventions). I have looked at Forensit profile wizard to add them to the domain, but mapping their old login name to parent AD user login. After that is done then would have to join their file server to domain, and...

Server and San Storage purchase feedback.

Hi all,

My company is currently embarking on a Tech refresh project and hence I would like some feedback on the potential hardware purchases that my company is considering especially if you have used them.

Just a little background of my current IT Infrastructure. Currently we have quite a few servers which we use for different purpose such as vm host for exchange server, file storage, domain controller and etc. In view of aging infrastructure and by recommendations of a few IT vendors, we intend to go towards3 tier architecture.

So our current plan is to purchase a SAN storage and to purchase 1 new server and to re-purpose (upgrade) one of the existing servers (Lenovo X36520 M5) to connect to the SAN storage to consolidate our file, vms for easier management.

Currently we have 3 different vendors proposing the 3 set of hardware so I would...

options on sharing CSV data on mobile devices.

Hi,

I have a CSV file full of contact details that is used by one of our out of hours teams.  They currently use a Psion5 to search the contacts when out of hours, but this is old tech and needs replacing.

The data must be fully searchable and available on multiple devices and also available offline, the data can be in any form it just happens to be in a CSV file.  They want a clean interface which just shows the building info they have searched for (rather than the CSV which is messy to look at (especially at 2 am if you've just been woken up).  I've looked at using Android or iOs contact apps but the data has too many custom fields.  I'm currently reading up on powerapps to see if that will work offline (not sure if it will).

Can anyone offer any other options?

Thanks

Offline Files - Synchronisation issue

$

Hi,

We have a domain that is spread over three sites, for some reason one site keeps having machines activating offline files and then the machine fails to connect to network drives while a full sync is taking place.

We don't want Offline files on and have no need for it, but I can't find what is making offline Files be activated in the first place.

I have checked GPO and the policies this sites PC's have are the same policies that are available at the other two sites, no GP's have anything relating to offline files enabled so I can't see that it is a user logging on everywhere and leaving this setting enabled behind.

The fact that it seems to only affect the one remote site makes me think it has to be GPO but the only policies being used are the domain policies so this setting should be enabled everywhere if it were GPO?

Is there anything...
